…. with guided yoga pose instruction
This week it’s all about Giving Thanks, expressing Gratitude for all that we have, and, not forgetting all that we have been blessed with in the past.

All too often we can take so much for granted; the experiences we have and the people that come and go throughout our lifetime.

Many things may appear either too simplistic and slightly insignificant, or maybe, due to the pace of life we set for ourselves, things that appear right in front of us are not always captured within a moment and considered meaningful blessings.
It’s the simple things like …
… the ability to “breathe” with ease
… the ability to “see” a vision in vibrant colour.
… the ability to “feel” and “touch” textures, be it something in nature, or even as simple as appreciating the clothes on our backs.
… the ability to “smell” the aromas in the air, yes, even the non-appealing ones that have us holding our breath, amusingly, for a short while.
… the ability to “taste” food (that we may rush down, just so we’re not late for that job we’d rather not turn up to, although others would be grateful to have.)
… the ability to “hear” the laughter of children in their most fun-loving adventurous moments, as well as taking in the sounds of nature, as the birds harmoniously sing their songs whilst the gentle breeze rustles the leaves on the trees.
It’s the fact that generally, we do have the “ability“ to do – see – feel – taste, and hear things, but unfortunately, and all too often, we’ll overlook and take these opportunities for granted due to other priorities we find ourselves attempting to navigate in this fast-paced world we all find ourselves living in today.

I remember growing up when at each mealtime, it was an accepted practice, and what appeared to be normal, to always give thanks before picking up our cutlery to consume the food that we’d been blessed with.
Such family values have broadly changed as the world has changed – People have the opportunity to eat out more often (take-away), also many choose to sit in front of the television, mindlessly eating, not savouring their food and therefore, not appreciating it as much as it could be.

The years of my childhood (the 60’s and 70’s) were a time, in general, when communities appeared naturally more appreciative of the “simple things” in life. Regular gatherings of neighbours and family for fun and adventure were commonplace. People had time for each other, and the sense of family extended into our communities as well as the workplace.
These times and occasions naturally, and freely occurred, without the effort of scheduling them into our planners for only if, or when, we had time. Sadly, in many cases over the years, these times appear to have slowly eroded, due to technological advancements and commercial marketing influence. All of which have drawn much of the population into a self-absorbed, “closed off” world, rather than a shared and balanced view for community, and gratitude for the more simple pleasures of life.

I reflect and consider that in part, seeds for gratitude practice often originate from a place of lack. This understandably would be much the case for those having gone through the trials and challenges of famine and times of war. Those who lived through the world wars, experiencing many years on stamp rationings, such as my parents and grandparents, totally would have been mindful of each blessing moving forward. But why should “the world” wait for such times to feel grateful?

We really do have so much to be grateful for. It’s in the small things, the simple things, the life-given blessings that, when we give thanks, our experiences become more soulful and meaningful.

Our gratitude for life itself can provide us the opportunity to bring immense pleasure and joy into our own hearts, and that too of the world.

With love, blessings, and gratitude,

Wisdom unfolds and comes to us in a timely manner …….
once the lessons gifted to us have been acknowledged and learned!
